More Information | Rate Accuracy of This Model
Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

If you are thinking about a trip to the North Shore this winter, and would like to polish up your technique or talents, you may want to visit the SunsetSuratt Surf School. "Uncle Brian" Suratt has been teaching and coaching for over 40 years and has helped hundreds of wave riders take their surfing to the next level. For more info, or to book a session in Hawaii, contact: http://www.sunsetsurattsurfschool.com/
The North Shore circus is officially in full swing, drawing the world’s top surfing tightrope walkers, beast-tamers, freaks and clowns. For proof, just check Surfline’s latest weekly report , where NJ’s Ryan Miller followed East Coasters around during a down day. Zander Morton and Gabe Kling watched TV, while Brian Toth, CJ Hobgood and Ben Bourgeois played tennis. Come on, guys: get back in the water! Don’t you realize it’s winter back home?!
What better way to spend your time huddled in doors than helping your fellow surfers save the ocean? On Nov. 17, join Georgia Surfrider at Tubby’s in Thunderbolt; starts at 7pm.
Then, on Nov. 19, the Outer Banks Surfrider chapter will be at the Pit in Nags Head; starts at 6:30pm. As part of the chapter’s new bi-monthly, winter schedule, this will be their last meeting until January, so don’t miss it.
On Nov. 21, Kitty Hawk, NC’s 158 Surf And Skate will hold a Thanksgiving Food Drive “Late Skate” from 7pm-12am — just $5 with two cans of food. Go to 158SurfandSkate.com for more info.
Nov. 21 is also the deadline for entering South Carolina’s Liquid Shredder Team Challengein memory of John Kalagian. Set for Nov. 29-30 at the Washout, the purpose of this contest is to promote competitive surfing and foster team spirit.
Meanwhile, in WB, Tony Butler is gearing up for the 4th Annual Hope From Helen Surf Silent Auction at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach. The date will be Friday December 5th and food will be courtesy of Tower 7 and live music by local surf legends Jerry Powell and Greg Eavey. They’re currently seeking both auction items and donations. Contact Tony for details and spread the word.
Before heading to Hawaii, Benny B. swooped home to Wrightsville to run his “Pimp My Blaze” event, throwing out free gear to local groms and giving his ’95 Blazer to over 16 winner Fisher Heverly – 15 and under winner Mason Barnes got a free bike from Two Wheeler Dealer. It must’ve been a really inspiring event; Tony Silvagni felt the push all the way out in Huntington Beach as he took second at the Costa Del Mar Pro longboard event.
And Benny wasn’t the only hero in NC last week as Jimmy Buffett stopped by REAL Watersports in Cape Hatteras. The boys met him two years ago in the Caribbean while surfing. They didn't get as lucky with the waves this time, but did score a nice full moon standup paddle and rum and tonics down in Hatteras Village. Check the vid and pics here
The national election’s done, but another political fight is only beginning. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.
And, finally, what’s the best part of a surf trip? That giant excess baggage fee the airlines pork you with on both sides, right? Wrong! Well, stop bitching and do something by signing this petition.
